17 JAS Family Members Surrender in Borno

Seventeen family members linked to Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal Jihad have voluntarily surrendered to troops of Operation HADIN KAI in separate incidents in Borno State, the military said on Wednesday. 

The Acting Military Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Capt. Mohammed Goni, disclosed this in a statement, saying the surrendered individuals are in military custody undergoing preliminary profiling and debriefing before being handed over to the appropriate authorities for further processing. 

According to the statement, 16 of the surrendered individuals 10 women and six children voluntarily surrendered to troops of the 222 Battalion during a domination patrol along the Gezuwa axis in Konduga Local Government Area on Aug. 4. 

The military said the group told troops that sustained offensive operations against terrorist enclaves influenced their decision to surrender. Troops also recovered ₦92,000 from the group. 

In a separate incident on the same day, an 11-year old JAS family member surrendered to troops of the 202 Battalion in Bama Local Government Area. The military said the child also attributed the decision to the sustained operational pressure on terrorist elements. 

Capt. Goni said the surrendered individuals would undergo further profiling, detailed debriefing and, where applicable, rehabilitation in line with established procedures. 

He added that the latest surrenders demonstrate the impact of ongoing military operations aimed at dismantling terrorist enclaves, disrupting logistics and denying insurgents freedom of movement across the North East. 

Operation HADIN KAI, he said, remains committed to sustaining offensive operations while facilitating the voluntary surrender of insurgents and their family members in accordance with established procedures.
