‎After more than ten years of displacement, families are slowly returning to the town of Malam Fatori, bringing with them hope, cautious optimism, and a call for unity and adherence to the rule of law.

‎Speaking to the International News Syndicate in Malam Fatori, the District Head, Abba Yerima Mustapha (YERIMA OF BORNO), welcomed the returnees and urged them to be law-abiding citizens. “We are happy to see our people returning after years of hardship. As we rebuild our homes and communities, it is crucial that everyone remains peaceful and committed to the law,” he said.

‎The District Head commended the Borno State Government, led by Governor Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, for its efforts in reconstructing the town. According to him, the revival of Malam Fatori has been made possible through the collaboration of security agencies, volunteers, and the resilience of the local community.

‎“The security agencies have worked tirelessly to ensure the safety of our people, while volunteers and government officials have contributed immensely to rebuilding our homes and public infrastructure,” Abba Mustapha added.

‎He also expressed profound gratitude to the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Dr. Abubakar Umar Garbai Al-amin Elkanemi, for his continued dedication to fostering unity and stability in the region. “His leadership has played a key role in encouraging displaced residents to return and in keeping our communities united,” the District Head said.

‎For many returning residents, the journey home has been emotional. Some have spent more than a decade in camps and temporary shelters, separated from the land and livelihoods they once knew. While the town shows visible signs of reconstruction, including restored homes and basic services, challenges remain.

‎Local authorities have promised continued support to ensure a smooth reintegration process. Efforts include the provision of essential services, security guarantees, and initiatives to help residents rebuild their livelihoods.

‎As the sun rises over Malam Fatori, it casts light on a town once abandoned, now slowly coming back to life a testament to resilience, collaboration, and the long road toward peace and normalcy.
