‎Nigeria’s Defense Minister Badaru Abubakar Resigns on Health Grounds‎

‎Nigeria’s defense minister, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, resigned on Monday, citing health reasons, according to a statement from the presidency.
‎
‎In a letter dated Dec. 1 and addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Mr. Abubakar said he was stepping down “with immediate effect.” The president has accepted the resignation and expressed appreciation for Mr. Abubakar’s service, said Bayo Onanuga, the president’s special adviser on information and strategy.
‎
‎The presidency said Mr. Tinubu is expected to notify the Senate of a nominee to replace Mr. Abubakar later this week.
‎
‎Mr. Abubakar, 63, served two terms as governor of Jigawa State between 2015 and 2023 before his appointment as defense minister in August 2023. 

His departure comes as Mr. Tinubu declares a national security emergency, with additional details on the initiative expected soon.

BY ADAMU ALIYU NGULDE, MAIDUGURI On Saturday, a 15-year-old girl was killed in Maiduguri when a Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) operative strayed off and shot her. Intelligence sources have informed International News Syndicate that the incident occurred at Kanti Goma Shabiyu, Umarari Ward, on Baga Road, as CJTF personnel affiliated with Sector 10 engaged in an arrest attempt.  The accidental discharge of a firearm by an operative identified as 27-year-old Abba Sidi Mala resulted in an injury to Zainab Usman's head. The security patrol team was quick to respond and rush the victim to the State Specialist Hospital, where her death was confirmed.  Her family was given her remains for burial in accordance with Islamic rites. According to sources, the suspect has been taken into custody by the police, and an investigation is currently taking place to determine the circumstances leading to the accidental release.

On Monday, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the public relations officer of Borno State Command, released an update on the case, which affirmed that the children who were treated cruelly by a couple are now in a stable condition and receiving the required care. The statement indicates that their father, Mr. Goni Murmured, visited the state headquarters, where they were given financial aid by senior police officers. The victims are recovering after being released from the hospital, as stated by ASP Daso. BORNO: In Benishiekh, a man was killed during a tragic dispute over mango farming

BY: ADAMU ALIYU NGULDE, MAIDUGURI The death of a brother and the hospitalization of another have been caused by a dispute between two brothers about mango harvesting in Benishiekh, Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State. According to sources, the incident took place on Tuesday around 9:00 AM when Kajdi Kachalla, 40, and his younger brother, Baba Goni Kachalla, 28, had a physical fight at their mango plantation in Ajari Area, Benishiekh. During the fight, both men used wooden sticks to inflict serious head and mouth injuries on one another.  The police operatives responded quickly and transported them to the General Hospital in Benishiekh.  Kajdi Kachalla has been declared dead, while Baba Goni is still undergoing medical treatment. The deceased's body was later given to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic rituals.
