Speaking on Saturday during a rally in Gaya, a town near the border, Tchiani accused Benin of hosting French troops and allowing Western countries to “finance and support terrorism” aimed at destabilising the Alliance of Sahel States (AES). A viral voice note shared on WhatsApp alleged that an unidentified woman was apprehended in the Bayan Quarters area while attempting to abduct a child, and that other children were later found in her possession at a local police station. But police spokesman ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso dismissed the claim as “false and misleading”, saying no such incident occurred in Maiduguri or anywhere in the state.
