Borno Police, PCRC Hold Capacity Building Workshop to Strengthen Community Policing
The Borno State Police Command, in collaboration with the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), has organized a Capacity Building Workshop aimed at strengthening community-police relations, enhancing intelligence-led policing, and promoting public safety across the state.
Declaring the workshop open on behalf of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, the Secretary to the State Government reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies, stressing that “security is a shared responsibility.”
In his remarks, PCRC State Chairman, Ambassador Abatcha Umar Nanabe, underscored the importance of trust, collaboration, and information sharing between the police and communities as a means of addressing insecurity.
Representing the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, Deputy Commissioner of Police Ahmed M. Bello delivered a keynote lecture on “Public Safety and Security through Intelligence and Information Gathering.” He emphasized proactive policing, confidentiality in handling intelligence, and deeper community engagement as critical tools for effective policing.
The workshop also featured discussions on the role of women and youth in peacebuilding, witness protection, curbing youth restiveness, and strengthening cooperation among security agencies, traditional institutions, and civil society organizations.
The event concluded with the presentation of certificates of appointment and recognition to PCRC stakeholders and patrons. In his vote of thanks, Ambassador Nanabe expressed appreciation to the Borno State Government, security agencies, traditional rulers, women leaders, and stakeholders for their support, while reaffirming PCRC’s commitment to fostering stronger ties between the police and the public.
