As part of renewed efforts to combat terrorism through non-kinetic means, General Christopher Musa, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), in collaboration with the British Defence Staff, has launched a four-day Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) and Human Security workshop in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The Workshop, which was held at the Theatre Command Officers' Mess in Maimalari Cantonment on Monday and was intended to provide participants with tools to integrate human security into military operations and improve coordination between civilian and military in counter-terrorism efforts, especially in the North East.
General Musa, who was represented by Rear Admiral Olusanya Bankole, Chief of Defence Civil-Military Relations, underlined the need for strategies that transcend firepower during modern conflicts.

"He stated that non-kinetic approaches enable us to resolve conflicts while respecting human dignity, fostering collaboration, and creating resilient communities" he said.
He thanked the British High Commission for their support and praised the ongoing efforts of the Nigerian Armed Forces and partner agencies in combating terrorism.

"The nature of today's threats necessitates a 'whole-of-society' approach that brings together kinetic strength and human-focused solutions" General Musa added.

Those who attend the workshop include officers from various branches of the Armed Forces, Police, DSS, Civil Defense Corps, and civil society groups including the Al-Amin Foundation.
In his remarks, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, who was represented by air vice marshal Essien Efanga, described the workshop as "a vital platform for connecting operational success with human-centred peacebuilding".
He stressed the importance of strong cooperation with civil authorities and local communities in winning the war for Operation Hadin Kai, which goes beyond the battlefield.

The workshop is designed to equip Nigeria's security forces with international best practices to address the root causes of insurgency and protect civilian populations by including case studies, practical scenarios, and strategy sessions.
