The village of Guiedougou in western Burkina Faso was devastated by suspected fighters from the Jama'at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM) during a devastating attack, which was said to be one of the deadliest attacks in the region in recent years, killing an estimated 300 people.

The military stated that the operation 'liberated' the Sourou Valley on April 1 and then withdrew the next day.

According to the military, the Sourou Valley was successfully 'liberated' by the operation on April 1 and then withdrew the next day.

According to witnesses, JNIM fighters with heavy weapons surrounded the village and launched a coordinated, large-scale assault on civilians and local infrastructure.

The group believes that most of the victims are residents who were accused of collaborating with government forces.

According to security analysts, the militants' swift and brutal response is in opposition to official claims of territorial recovery and illustrates the increasingly unstable security situation in the region.

As of the time of filing this report, the government of Burkina Faso has not made an official statement about the massacre.

The ongoing conflict between jihadist groups and government forces in Burkina Faso's troubled northern and western regions has intensified significantly as a result of this attack.
