In Nigeria's Northeast, police arrested five criminals and found stolen railway tracks.

Five people have been charged by the Borno State Police Command with vandalism and theft of railway tracks that are worth millions of naira.

A press release from SP Nahum Daso Kenneth on Tuesday stated that the incident happened on March 29, 2025.

Based on credible information, the police patrol team stopped a group that was traveling along the Maiduguri-Damaturu Road in Kaga Local Government Area. 

The team, led by Area Commander Benisheik Area Command, found the suspects possessing 62 (62) railway sleepers and 48 rail tracks. According to Daso.

Abba Modu Shuwa, 25, from Beshisheki, Mustapha Bura, 25, from Beshisheki, Ali Malami, 17, from Beshisheki, Mustapha Abba, 27, from Beshisheki, and Abba Abubakar, 25, from Bama Town are among the arrested individuals.

"The investigation revealed that the suspects took possession of this crucial infrastructure and tried to smuggle it out of the state before being caught" the statement said.

The Area Command received the stolen railway materials after their recovery. 

The Command is committed to safeguarding public infrastructure and prosecuting those involved in acts of vandalism and criminal activity.
