Borno police arrested members of motorcycle theft syndicate.

A criminal syndicate that specializes in stealing tricycles in Maiduguri, Borno State, northeast Nigeria was busted and arrested by police.

Ali Muhammad, 38, was arrested by operatives after escaping from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Maiduguri and fleeing during the September 2024 flood disaster.

According to ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the command's spokesperson, Muhammad was apprehended on April 16, 2025, while carrying a Keke Napep engine that was believed to be stolen.
He admitted to forcibly stealing the engine with an accomplice known as Alhaji, who is currently at large, while being interrogated.

According to reports, Muhammed Batcha was the victim of an incident that took place on Pompomari Bypass Road on April 15 at around 9:00 p.m.

After further investigation, three hideouts in the same area were raided, which resulted in the arrest of 14 additional suspects, ages 16 to 29.

Items recovered during the operation include two tricycles, six trailer batteries, five mobile phones, a POS machine, a shisha pot, power bank, a cutlass, two knives, a saw blade, two ATM cards, one memory card, a waist charm, ten finger rings, and a bunch of keys.
For further investigation and prosecution, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

The command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the safety and security of all residents. And the public is advised to report suspicious activities and to come forward with valid proof of ownership if any recovered item belongs to them.
