The Theatre Command Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai has handed over 74 rescued individuals, including seven adult males, 34 women, and 34 children, to the Borno State Government.
The handover ceremony, held on Monday March 10, 2025, showcases the ongoing efforts to stabilise the region and restore normalcy.
Brigadier General Anthony Okpodu, representing Theatre Commander Major General Waidi Shuaibu, reiterated the military’s commitment to ending insurgency and ensuring civilian safety.
“This handover ceremony highlights the collective efforts of Operation Hadin Kai, the Borno State Government, and key stakeholders in stabilising the North East,” he stated.
The rescued individuals were recovered during Operation Desert Sanity 4, which successfully cleared key terrorist strongholds in Ukuba, Ijimia, Sabi Huber, Gary, Faluja, and Gubara in the Sambisa Forest.
"The 21st Special Armoured Brigade and 199th Special Forces Battalion's troops were successful in conducting offensive operations that resulted in the rescue of these civilians,” Brigadier General Okpodu explained.
He emphasised that the operation significantly degraded enemy capabilities by “neutralising insurgents, destroying command and logistics bases, makeshift shelters, weapon caches, and IED-making materials.”
“During recent operations, troops provided critical interventions, including child vaccinations, first aid, medical care, and the distribution of food and relief materials,” Brigadier General Okpodu said.
Rescued civilians received immediate medical attention, clothing, food, psychological support, and temporary shelter.
The military's continued offensive against terrorists and the rescue of innocent civilians were praised by Aisha Shettima, a representative from the Borno Ministry of Women's Affairs and Director of Women's Affairs, commended the military for its dedication to rescuing women and children from captivity.
