The Borno State Commissioner of Police, CP Yusufu Mohammed Lawal, has inaugurated a cutting-edge Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) training facility in Maiduguri, marking a significant advancement in the efforts to combat insurgency in the North East region.

The first facility of its kind in the region has been graciously donated by the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), UK Aid, and other partners.

Situated along Wulari bypass in Maiduguri, the school was officially handover to the authorities on Tuesday morning.

On behalf of the commissioner, Deputy Commissioner of Police DCP Ahmed Mohammed Bello expressed appreciation to the donors and assured that the facility will be utilized efficiently to fulfill its intended purpose.

The school features a water facility, a solar-powered energy system, air conditioning, advanced equipment for EOD training, and a hostel with a capacity of 60 beds.

The training school has initiated operations with 60 personnel from the state, comprising divisional officers from all 38 divisions and members of strike forces.

According CP, members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) were also slated for training.

The EOD training school is anticipated to significantly enhance the capabilities of security personnel in their efforts to address insurgency in the North East region, which has been impacted by the Boko Haram crisis for more than a decade.

He added that, this facility will enhance the capability of the police and other security agencies in managing explosive devices, mines, and ordnance.
