Angry young people attempted to set fire to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) office in Iware, Ardo-Kola Local Government Area of Taraba State, Northeast Nigeria after a suspect was allegedly tortured and killed in custody.

According to sources who have spoken to International News Syndicate, the upheaval started when Yunusa Kaka, 42, was allegedly tortured by security personnel at the NSCDC office in Iware.

Two handsets and two packets of Benson cigarettes from Peter Majo in Iware Ward were reported to have been stolen by Biliaminu Adamu, 24, on March 30 at about 9:00 p.m., which led to trouble.

Adamu claimed he gave the stolen phones to Kaka while in custody, but Kaka denied any involvement.

According to a report, Kaka was tortured by security personnel in an attempt to get a confession.

His brother rushed him to Miyetti Allah Hospital in Iware after he became unresponsive and was confirmed dead.

The NSCDC office was attacked by a large number of youths after news of Kaka's death sparked outrage.

The security personnel were successful in preventing the attack, and the area has since regained calm.

The investigation into the incident is still ongoing, according to authorities.
