A teenage mother has been detained for suspected infanticide in Damasak, Borno.

A 17-year-old girl named Fatima Adamu, from Gamari Village, Niger Republic, was arrested by the Nigerian Police Force in Borno for suspected infanticide after her newborn baby was discovered dead.
Fatima Adamu gave birth to a healthy male baby on March 21, 2025 at approximately 8:00 a.m., as per the information collected.
Fanna Modu from Chinguluski Village, a witness who heard the baby cry, noticed that the infant was dead and suspected it was intentional.
According to police sources, detectives visited the scene and no visible signs of violence were found during the initial examination of the baby's body.
The body was transported to General Hospital Damasak for additional medical examination to determine the cause of death.
According to the source, the suspect has been taken into custody and is now undergoing interrogation.
