The occasion was held at Government College Maiduguri today.
Students from a variety of Maiduguri schools, including Shehu Garbai Secondary School, Yerwa Girls College, and Government Girls College, were featured in the event, which aimed to educate young people about the value of saving money in any financial institution.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Education, Alhaji Bukar Zannah, spoke on behalf of the state Commissioner of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation Engineer, Abba Lawan Wakilbe, who commended the organizers for a job well done and added that the state has faced difficulties as a result of a ten-year insurgency.
He emphasized the recent progress made in Borno's educational system, noting that since 2019, Governor Babagana Zulum has spent more than 11 billion naira to support Borno students studying overseas and renovate local schools.
Speaking as well, Maaji Mohammed, the principal of Government College Maiduguri, underlined the value of student empowerment and pointed out that the program will have a significant positive impact on the students' futures.
While the event's coordinator, Mrs. Regina Josiah Demlong, spoke extensively about the advantages of saving for personal growth, Bello Mohammed's paper presentation traced the history of World Savings Day back to October 30, 1934, and emphasized the significance of teaching students the value of saving.
In a closing remark, the school's Vice Principal thanked the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation for organizing the event, describing it as timely and impactful.
