CNS arrives in Borno amid resurgence of ISWAP attacks

BY: ADAMU ALIYU NGULDE To boost troop morale, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), visited Maiduguri, Borno State and paid a working visit. The Air Force Base in Maiduguri was the destination of Admiral Ogalla's plane's landing on Saturday morning. The purpose of the visit is to meet with marine personnel at various formations in the state, evaluate their operational readiness, and provide guidance to enhance their effectiveness in combating terrorism. The CNS's visit is also expected to provide a morale boost to the troops who have been battling the Boko Haram/ISWAP sect for over a decade. Suspected terrorists attack herder, rustle livestock in Northeast Nigeria.

BY: ADAMU ALIYU NGULDE Suspected Boko Haram terrorists attacked a herder and rustled livestock in Burum Village bush area of Damboa Local Government Area of Borno state, police authorities confirmed on Wednesday. According to sources, the incident happened on June 9 at approximately 6:00 p.m. when the attackers, armed with machetes, attacked 20-year-old Riskuwa Ibrahim while he was grazing his herd. Ibrahim Buba, the victim's father, reported the incident and stated that his son suffered severe injuries to his head, hand, and back during the attack. According to reports, the terrorists took twenty-eight (28) sheep to an unknown destination. He was taken to the hospital where he was recuperating.

Borno: New Commissioner of Police assumes duty

The 43rd Commissioner of Police for Borno State Command is now CP Abdulmajid after CP Yusufu Mohammed Lawal retired on June 8, 2025. ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the command's spokesperson, announced on Tuesday that CP Abdulmajid, who has served for more than three decades, brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Across the country, he has held various positions, including operational, investigative, and administrative ones. ASP Daso mentioned that the new CP has carried out routine police duty in various state commands, including Plateau, Katsina, Kano, Borno, and Lagos.  Furthermore, he has been in key positions, including being Unit Commander for 36 PMF in Kebbi State and Assistant Commissioner for State CID in Nasarawa State. UN warns of impact Sudan's humanitarian crisis is having on Chad

With the civil war in Sudan in its third year, the humanitarian situation is worsening with more than 25 million people experiencing acute food insecurity. As refugees continue to flood into neighbouring Chad, the UN Special Representative for Central Africa, Abdou Abarry, has raised the alarm over the deepening crisis. “The international community’s inaction risks exacerbating the humanitarian situation, especially as the ongoing conflict in Sudan continues to result in an increasing number of refugees heading to Chad,” he said. It estimates that some 1.2 million Sudanese have found shelter in the eastern part of Chad, mostly after fleeing intensifying violence in their country. Speaking at the UN Security Council, Abarry said that under the UN system, Chad was trying to provide additional emergency humanitarian assistance and stabilisation programmes at several locations. Gabon's military leader announces he will run for president

Gabon's military leader, Brice Oligui Nguema Almost two years after leading a coup to end more than five decades of Bongo dynasty rule, Gabon's military leader Brice Oligui Nguema has announced that he will run in April's presidential elections. After President Ali Bongo was ousted in August 2023, Nguema promised to return power to civilians after a transitional period.  Members of the military and magistrates can run in elections under a new electoral code that was given the green light by the transitional Parliament in January. Nguema made the announcement during a speech in Gabon's capital. The 50-year-old said his vision for the nation was a 'Gabon rising from the ashes' as he called on the crowd to support his candidacy.
